The Friend 2 Friend Autism Demystification programs were created to promote understanding, acceptance and empathy between children with autism and their peers and siblings. These evidence-based programs use a systematic approach to educate both individuals with autism and their peer groups, and teach prosocial communication strategies to enhance peer social inclusion, play and friendships.
Autism Demystification Programs
provides participants with evidence-based, educational programs designed to increase social inclusion, play and friendships between individuals with autism and their typically developing peers inclusive classrooms and community settings.
Unlike “awareness” activities that identify and label individuals with autism, singling them out and creating an “us and them” culture, the Friend 2 Friend Autism Demystification Programs NEVER single out or identify. Instead, the programs work to foster an understanding that we are all different in our own way. And teach prosocial communication strategies to all the participants. These inclusive educational programs enhance peer social interactions, reducing feelings of isolation and reducing bullying.
Our Autism Demystification programs are kid-tested for more than 15 years, with tens of thousands of children participating in the programs throughout BC and countless more worldwide through our satellite partners and publications.
